Five Elements and Alchemical Acupuncture

Acupuncture moves blockages and relieves pain, restoring wellness.  Acupuncture also creates new energetic patterns that support the physical, emotional and spiritual changes we are making in our lives.  Pain, Stress, Insomnia, Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Migraines, Autoimmune disorders, Digestive difficulties and Reproductive Health issues can cause us to lose sight of who we really are.

What do you want more than anything?  What pain do you want to be free of?  How can you and your body, mind and spirit work more effectively in partnership?

Gerri Ravyn Stanfield practices acupuncture that is a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Elements Acupuncture and Hari, a Japanese style of acupuncture. She blends acupuncture, massage, nutritional consultation and herbs with principles of Neidan (Taoist alchemy) and Jungian psychology to facilitate healing and transformation on a holistic level. Her specialties include the treatment of acute/chronic pain, stress disorders and sexual health concerns. She also works with women's reproductive health issues such as menstrual difficulties, pregnancy, and menopause.  She will help you to create a weight loss or smoking cessation program that works for you.  She has been in practice since 2002.

I offer a free phone consultation and discounts on first treatments to folks who work for many local businesses.  I also accept many forms of insurance including Providence, Health Net, LifeWise, Kaiser, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Please call 503-754-8802 or email forestspringacupuncture@yahoo.com to schedule an appointment or see www.forestspringacupuncture.com for more information.

Individual & Couples Counseling

Counseling can be invaluable for helping you to move safely and consciously through fear, broken-heartedness, “stuck” places, or the ending of old patterns that do not serve you. I see each of us as the healer of our own life and my work as helping you make contact with your truth and your heart, so that you can live by the inherent health, wisdom and power that originate there. My method is intuitive, direct, practical and unconditionally accepting of who you are. Working with couples, my perspective is: in order for relationship to be vibrant and strong, each person in it must be vibrant and strong. This calls on each individual to cultivate self-care, personal truth and responsibility. I am deeply drawn to help people build healthy, empowered relationships that are based on being true to oneself – and sharing that self with another.

Consciousness & Unconditional Peace
This is a deep exploration of life and consciousness. I teach a transformative practice of absolute and abiding peace, through present-moment living in the field of conscious awareness. What is discovered here is a gift of peace without description or comparison. This path is very straightforward, and free of dogma or belief systems. It is a simple but radical shift of attention, away from the endless stream of thoughts and beliefs in your mind and onto the startling, living relationship with life itself. The work itself consists of sitting, investigations of what-is-so, teaching, dialogs and "answer-less questioning". In addition to meeting with people privately, I regularly host groups and retreats in Portland, on the Oregon Coast and in Boise, ID.

I feel such joy in doing this and look forward to meeting you. There is no cost for the first meeting, nor any obligation to continue. To set up an appointment, please contact me directly: 503.321.5065 or gavin@gavinbowes.org.

Morgan Brent, PhD

I offer sessions in the healing art of 'vocal vitality'.  This is an organic approach to improving your speaking and singing voice based on the principles behind naturalistic medicine (e.g., Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine), and timeless shamanic techniques.

A session initially emphasizes breathing, toning, and getting comfortable with whole-body sounding. We then use vocalized visualizations (vocalization + visualization = manifestation) to help awaken your ‘Creation-body’, the living earth within each of us. An activated Creation-body inspires us with purpose, strength, and an authentic voice. Once that voice begins to reveal itself, I can offer a multicultural selection of mantras, chants, healing prayers, and songs of spirit to help give it form and direction. The ultimate goal is to apply this voice to setting new vibrational patterns that call in positive life changes. And to en-joy!

I also offer private tai chi chuan lessons, and (relatively) regular group Creation-song circles in The Trillium Room at the Flanders House.  For more information, please see http://www.tribesofcreation.com

Soma Neuromuscular Integration (a form of structural integration in the Rolf lineage), Craniosacral Therapy, Somamassage (structural based full body massage), Therapeutic deep tissue, relaxing Swedish, movement therapy, fitness education.

1) Structural Integration forms the basis of the most progressive form of conditioning, leading to improvement in athletic, theatrical, and professional performance. By incorporating BioSomatics, exercise, and awareness arts with the Structural Integration work, we have the opportunity to create an individualized, custom practice or routine so that the client can carry the structural integration work forward into his/her life.

About Structural Integration - Structural Integration ("SI") is a client-involved form of deep-tissue manual therapy that spans 11 sessions.  It facilitates a more natural and easeful positioning of the human structure within gravity by addressing the suspensory nature of human beings.

Structural Integration is effective at treating chronic pain syndromes such as back pain, hip pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ, and headaches. Structural Integration is also an excellent modality for improving performance.

In Structural Integration work symptoms are addressed in relation to their root cause. As a result of going through this 11-session series, you will experience a sense of balance, decreased pain, and increased stability, mobility, and energy.

Structural Integration is ideal for people who want to experience lasting change in their body and for people who want to experience an increased sense of well-being. Structural Integration leads to an increased awareness of one’s growth as a natural process, and there is typically a corresponding increase in self-reliance and self-confidence.

All sessions last 1 to 2 hours.

Individualized movement re-education is incorporated with the hands-on bodywork to facilitate integration of the work and to place it within a real-life context.

Structural Integration works directly with fascia and the collagen molecule—rather than with muscles—to reverse the effects of the forces of gravity, stress, tension and trauma. The Structural Integration stroke dynamic renders the collagen molecule more fluid and thinner. This allows for a reduction of adhesions and for increased range of motion.

Structural Integration creates lasting, profound, and progressive changes. The client’s structure is altered, compensatory patters are redefined, and a more biologically-designed being is re-established.

2) BioSomatics Movement Education is a somatic, rehabilitative approach to restoring voluntary control of the muscular system. BioSomatics directly addresses sensory-motor amnesia, a memory loss of how muscle groups feel and a loss of our ability to control them. BioSomatics utilizes a composite of non-strenuous movements that bring results quickly, enhances coordination, and reverses harmful, learned, adaptive responses.

BioSomatics Movement Education is a somatic, rehabilitative approach to restoring voluntary control of the muscular system. BioSomatics directly addresses sensory-motor amnesia: a memory loss of how muscle groups feel and a loss of our ability to control them.

In BioSomatics work the client experiences a felt sense of his/her weightedness in relation to movement. We use novelty to reawaken the brain to what is possible in the body. To this end BioSomatics utilizes a composite of slow, gentle, non-strenuous movements that bring results quickly, enhance coordination, and reverse harmful, learned, adaptive responses.

BioSomatics work is effective at treating chronic pain syndromes such as back, hip, and neck pain; carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome; TMJ; and headaches. It is also an excellent modality for improving performance (athletic, performative, and otherwise). As a result of the BioSomatics work, clients report greater relaxation, enhanced coordination, increased self-awareness, more supple muscles, greater range of motion, and an improved mind-body connection.

BioSomatics can be used as a part of your rehabilitation and/or as a way to regain proper function and use of the body—and to concurrently decrease pain syndromes as proper bodily function is being restored.  Those who have compromised mobility. For those who have general conditions (separate from a specific pain syndrome) that negatively affect their ability to move fully and to be comfortable in their body, BioSomatics can be an integral part of an improved quality of life. These conditions may be due to any number of reasons, including neuropathy, joint pain, musculo-skeletal issues, and post- surgical situations. With BioSomatics there is no direct pressure on the body. The work is soft and gentle, and the student has full control over his or her experience. This self-determination and self-responsibility is an important component of the BioSomatics work.

BioSomatics works very well in concert with other wellness modalities. In fact, it typically enhances the work done in fitness, Structural Integration, bodywork, chiropractic, and physical therapy sessions. By retraining the nervous system, the BioSomatics work changes how a person senses, moves, and perceives oneself—in relation to the self, the other, and the world.

BioSomatics sessions last 1 hour and are typically arranged over a series of 4 sessions.

3) Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds & invests all structures of the body. The problem is that fascia will thicken & shorten when any of your tissues are under stress from poor posture, lack of exercise, injury, surgery, disease or over-training.

While many therapies can help these conditions, only FST™ can completely treat inflexible fascia at the deepest level - your joint capsule. After we help make all of your layers of fascia become more pliable & hydrated then joint range of motion, muscle strength & flexibility immediately improves making it easier for you to train, maintain & feel great!

* Insurance: I accept PIP (personal injury protection) for auto accidents only. I am willing to provide the necessary paperwork so that you may seek reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Swedish Massage: This is a gentle form of massage using long strokes and kneading of tissue. The many benefits of a therapeutic Swedish massage include the release of feel good endorphins, improve concentration and posture and energize your body. This massage will help you lessen symptoms of anxiety, depression, muscle cramping and chronic body pain.  A great way to relax and unwind!
Deep Tissue:  This massage uses slower, firmer strokes plus passive stretching to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.  I use a combination of techniques to invigorate the muscles, help increase flexibility and soften injured, tired or overused muscles.  A deeply relaxing experience!
Reiki:  A Japanese healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation. Currently, I am attuned to level Reiki II and plan on receiving Reiki master certification.  I add a little energy healing work into every massage

Deep Tissue:
Focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense.

Swedish Relaxation Massage: For those who just want to unwind in a state of bliss and forget their day.

Myofascial Release: Sustained pressure and stretching to loosen restrictions in the muscles and fascia (thin connective tissue membrane). Myofascial release is used to reduce pain, relieve muscle tension and to increase joint mobility.
Pregnancy: Full term supported, comfy pillows provided.

Visceral Manipulation & Abdominal massage: Gentle pressure precisely directed as with other methods of manipulation that affect the body deeply. It helps those forces already at work benefiting the body rather than adding further injury or disorganization assisting in the flow of our natural processes.

Stone Therapy: Hot & Cold Stones are used in conjunction for contrast hydrotherapy which aids to stimulate circulation relieving sore muscles and relax held tensions throughout the body.

Injury Treatment and Prevention: There are several techniques taught that do not have a modality or framework to be labeled by, many of these treatment techniques help to prevent further injury to an area or allow for increased motility. In short I use these techniques for more specific work, such as scar release, Golgi-tendon organ release, origin insertion technique, cross fiber friction, deep diaphragmatic breathing and visualization stress reduction.

Range of Motion: Active isolated stretching, Post isometric resistance, Passive positional release, Pin and stretch, Agonist contract

Sports Massage: Originally created to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance or recovery. Related to Swedish massage it stimulates the blood and lymph fluids, some uses trigger point therapy to break down adhesions or knots in the muscle. It is also good for those with injuries, chronic pain, or a reduced range of motion. Generally the massage is concentrated on a specific problem area. Sore back or knees, anyone?

Lymphatic Drainage: Stimulates lymphatic system with light rhythmic massage which results in the elimination of metabolic waste, excess fluid and bacteria, encouraging cellular detoxification.

Reiki: A form of energy work which helps to balance one's energy and mood, very relaxing.

Insurance: I accept both auto (PIP) as well as Health insurance with prescription. I usually need a couple of days in advance for verification.

Naturopathic Doctor who practices Family Medicine.

She works with children and adults of all ages to treat a range of conditions including ear infections, colds and flus, autism, hormone imbalance, menopause, hypothyroid, fibromyalgia, and others.

Licensed Massage Therapist using several modalities including Lomi Lomi massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation and Lymph Drainage to help relieve pain and allow the body the regain balance.

Lomi Lomi Massage - Lomi Lomi massage is based on ancient Hawaiian healing traditions.  Lomi Lomi means "loving touch" and its intention is to communicate deeply "down to the bones" of an individual to stimulate healing.  The pressure used may be gentle or deep, depending the the needs of the person.
This style is wonderful for treatment of injuries including sprains and strains, back and neck pain, TMJ dysfunction, sciatica and fibrymyalgia.
Cranial Sacral Therapy - This gentle therapy uses light touch to release bony restrictions throughout the body and enhance/balance the parasympathetic ("rest and digest") nervous system.  It can be used to improve many different conditions including migraine and tension headaches, anxiety, ADHD, neck and back pain, and insomnia.
Lymph Drainage Therapy - This therapy has been used for decades in health spas in Europe and around the world to promote healing.  It improves lymphatic flow, thus helping us to eliminate toxins and wastes, move stagnant fluid, and stimulate the immune system.  It is great for chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic pain, allergies, and sinus congestion.

Specific techniques include Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Soft Tissue Release, Pre-Natal Massage and Integrated Stretching. This integrated approach relieves chronic pain and muscle tension, restoring the body’s natural function.

Warm stone massage – Warm stones glide over the body and are placed on the body to warm the muscles, increase circulation and relax and unwind the tensions of the day. ahhh….

Thai massage is a spiritual practice and some of the deepest bodywork you will ever have. It has been passed through monks direct from Dr. Shivako who was Buddha’s personal physician. It is done on a Thai mat on the floor through comfortable yoga style clothes. Opening the energy channels through acupressure, compression and assisted yoga style stretches.

Traditional Thai massage, Swedish, Relaxation, Deep Tissue, Stretching and Movement, Pregnancy

My approach is an integration of education, hands on experience, willingness to listen deeply to the body, presence of mind, curiosity and exploration, intuition, and understanding of the musculoskeletal system.

Every year I continue to expand my knowledge and experience with continuing education and practice. I bring what I learn to every session with the intention of providing the most excellent massage possible. In recent years I have developed a focused fondness on Traditional Thai Massage. My dream is to travel to Thailand and study with the great Masters while immersing myself in the Thai culture.

I completed my studies at East West College of Healing Arts, in Portland in 2000.
